We love Vegas! The lights, the action, food, shows and poker! But there are sometimes when we like to wind down a little and get back into nature. You can definitely get your steps in walking up and down the strip and even making your way to Fremont Street, but there is something about realizing that there are some pretty incredible natural wonders a short drive away that will make you want to venture out. Plus we give a list of our favorite activities to do off the Las Vegas Strip and some amazing food options!
So let’s explore together!

The Best Day Trips from Las Vegas
There are so many places that you can venture to from Las Vegas. From an hour to 3 hours. In order from shortest to longest distance, here are our favorite day trips from Las Vegas!
Red Rocks State Park – 30 minutes from Las Vegas
This is the closest day trip from Vegas. This state park is quite popular since it is only 30 minutes away. It is also very easy to explore. A paved loop throughout the park makes for a beautiful drive and provides ample opportunities to get out and stretch your legs. Make sure to stop in the visitor center to learn more about the area and understand why it is so unique.

Hoover Dam – 45 minutes from Las Vegas
This is on most people’s list of places to see near Las Vegas. From the Pat Tillman memorial to the incredible view of the Hoover Dam. There is one main parking lot to be able to explore the area and take a tour if you want. Some people park on the Arizona side for free parking. Head over the bridge for the best view, but be careful, it can get really windy! Then head directly over the Hoover Dam and check out the Colorado River.

Valley of Fire State Park – 1 hour from Las Vegas
This was one of our first day trips from Las Vegas. You can’t even begin to know what to expect driving up to the state park. Once you enter, you have to drive a little farther and then boom! Towering red rocks, beautiful landscapes and unique rock formations. You could really take an entire day to explore this state park. Death Valley National Park – 2 hours from Las Vegas
It took us years to actually get to this national park. I didn’t have much interest, which seems so silly to me. I would hear about the super bloom in the spring but thought it was too much of a drive just for that and there wasn’t much else to really do. But then I started researching the area and all of a sudden I had a list of areas I wanted to see. We finally made the trip from Las Vegas and wow. That is really all I can say. Other than, it went right to my top 5 national parks that we have been to. If you want to read about our experience at this national park, then CLICK HERE!

Zion National Park – 2.5 hours from Las Vegas
Another national park that is on everyone’s bucket list and you are only 2.5 hours away! This will get you to the west entrance of Zion National Park. This is the easier of the entrances to make it to the visitor center. There are no height restrictions. Since this park is so popular, you are only allowed to drive to the visitor center and then shuttle where you need to go in the park. The two most popular hikes in the park are permit only; Angels Landing and The Narrows. But I highly suggest checking out other areas. The wildlife is pretty amazing!

Cathedral Gorge State Park – 2.75 hours from Las Vegas
One of the most unique state parks we have been to. It will take an entire day with the drive, but you can see everything during your day trip. The spires are truly mesmerizing and the narrow slot canyons are a fun to explore. If you want to know how to make the most of your time, then read about our experience by CLICKING HERE!

Fun Things To Do Off The Las Vegas Strip Without Leaving Las Vegas
For a few more fun things to do without having to venture too far.
Top Golf – While this is only a block off the strip it is such a fun time. We love going for a couple hours each time we are there.
Clark County Shooting Range – If you like trap, skeet or sport course shooting, this is one of the best we have been at. They also have RV sites and you have the ability to rent anything you need.
Fremont Street – This might be obvious but sometimes people don’t even know this area exists. For a rowdier crowd and sometimes cheaper tables, check out this fun street.
Planet 13 Las Vegas – This is the largest dispensary in Las Vegas. If you want to check out pretty much anything THC, then this is your place. All but consuming on premise, this is the place to learn more about it. You can even see production.
Mob Museum – With exhibits and a self guided tour, learn everything mob. Explore a crime lab and immerse yourself into the life of a gangster.
Food Off the Las Vegas Strip
There is no argument that Las Vegas has some of the best food in the world. The strip isn’t the only place to go for dining.
If you are into ethnic food, then check out Spring Mountain. Some of the best ramen, sushi, Thai and Korean BBQ we have had in the United States is located on this street. Just west of the Las Vegas Strip, it is worthy of an uber ride. One of the most fun dining experiences is Korean BBQ. Here are our two favorite spots.
Hobak Korean BBQ is a slightly more upscale version of typical Korean BBQ. They even do most of the cooking, which is what makes it atypical.
Hanu Korean BBQ is a more typical Korean BBQ place. You do all the cooking and it is best to do the All you can eat.
Another great area for some more ethnic but eclectic cuisine is the small Arts District area just north of the Las Vegas Strip. While checking out the street art, local shops and art galleries, you can stop at any of the fun and funky local restaurants. From coffee shops, Mexican food, BBQ and fried chicken, you will find something that will make your stomach happy.
Other amazing places to eat?
Lotus of Siam – This Northern Thai restaurant became incredibly popular about 15 years ago. What made it famous, aside from its amazing food, was its even more impressive wine list!
Enjoy Las Vegas and your time off the strip!
